Police strikes major blow to drug trade by attaching property worth 20.56 lakh in Billawar

Kathua, May 31: In a significant stride towards dismantling the drug network operating in the region, the Kathua Police has successfully attached a property valued at ?20.56 lakh belonging to an alleged drug trafficker in Billawar. The action underscores the administration’s unwavering resolve to strike at the roots of narcotic smuggling and criminal profiteering.
The attached property, a single-storey residential building, was owned by Imran Ali, son of Shamash Din, a resident of Malhar and currently residing in Dadwara, Tehsil Billawar, District Kathua. The attachment was carried out under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985 – specifically under Sections 68-A(2)(c), 68-E, and 68-F – which empower authorities to seize assets acquired through the proceeds of drug trafficking.
The meticulous operation was executed by the dedicated team of Police Station Billawar, under the astute leadership of SHO Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq. His relentless pursuit of justice and firm commitment to uprooting drug activities in the region have won admiration from all quarters. The operation was conducted under the close supervision of SP Operations Upper Kathua, Aumer Iqbal, and SDPO Billawar, Neeraj Padyar (JKPS), with overall guidance and command provided by SSP Kathua, Shobit Saksena (IPS).
The case against Imran Ali is already under judicial scrutiny, as he remains in custody in connection with FIR No. 144/2024, registered under multiple sections of the NDPS Act (8/21/22/27-A/29) at Police Station Billawar. During the investigation – conducted in collaboration with the Revenue Department – the said property was identified as illegally acquired and found to be linked directly to illicit narcotic operations.
