Swift action by police leads to major narcotic seizure, drug peddler nabbed

Jammu, May 31: In a continued crackdown against drug trafficking and abuse, the Jammu South Police has scored a significant victory with the arrest of a narcotics smuggler and seizure of a sizable quantity of banned substances from the Channi Himmat area of the city.
Acting on clear directives and under the strategic guidance of SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh (JKPS), and close supervision of SP South Ajay Sharma (JKPS) and SDPO City East Sheezan Ahmed (JKPS), a dedicated police team from Police Station Channi Himmat, led by SHO Inspector Shariq Bhat, conducted a routine surveillance and patrolling operation on May 30, 2025.
During the course of the operation, a suspicious individual was intercepted by the alert police team. Upon conducting a detailed frisking and personal search, the team recovered 1 kilogram and 28 grams of Ganja from the possession of the accused.
The arrested individual has been identified as Anish Dass, son of Puni Dass, a native of Village Ghoradipa, Tehsil Jaijapur, District Janjgir Champa in Chhattisgarh. He was currently residing in the Talab Tillo area of Jammu.
Following the recovery, a case FIR No. 91/2025 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act (Section 8/20) was promptly registered at Police Station Channi Himmat. Further investigations are underway to uncover the broader network associated with this trafficking operation, including supply sources and distribution channels. Authorities have assured that forward and backward linkages will be pursued vigorously to dismantle any organized racket behind the supply of narcotics in the region.
Speaking on the operation, Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, Joginder Singh (JKPS), reiterated the department’s firm commitment to wiping out drug abuse from the district. He emphasized the crucial role of public cooperation in the battle against narcotics, urging citizens to remain vigilant and proactive.
