Doda, Sept 06: In a heroic and humane intervention, the Doda Police prevented what could have been a heartbreaking tragedy, rescuing a woman and her two young children moments before they attempted to leap into the Chenab River. The quick response of the police not only saved three innocent lives but also highlighted the force’s deep commitment to public safety and human dignity.
Acting on timely intelligence, a team from Police Station Doda, led by the Station House Officer (SHO), Inspector Parvez Ahmed rushed to the location after receiving reports of a potential suicide attempt. Their swift presence and sensitive handling of the situation ensured that the woman and her children were safely brought back from the brink of disaster.
The woman has been identified as Shamima Akhter, wife of Irfan Ahmed, and a resident of Golibagh, Doda. Following the rescue, she was immediately referred to the Women Police Station Doda for counseling and legal support. Authorities are also ensuring that her children receive proper care and psychological assistance.
This intervention is a shining example of how law enforcement can play a pivotal role in crisis response and emotional outreach. It reflects the proactive steps being taken by the Doda Police to support mental health, especially among vulnerable individuals facing domestic or personal turmoil.

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda, Sh. Sandeep Mehta (JKPS), made a heartfelt appeal to women enduring domestic strife or emotional distress to approach these help centers instead of resorting to extreme measures. “There is always a way forward. Help is available, and no one should ever feel alone,” he stated, reaffirming the police department’s unwavering support for every citizen. The Doda Police also issued a broader appeal to the community to remain alert, compassionate, and responsive to those in emotional distress. The public is encouraged to report any signs of mental or emotional crisis so that timely intervention can prevent irreversible loss.
