Rajouri, July 16: A glaring disparity in fund allocation under the Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) Budget 2025-26 has raised eyebrows in Rajouri district, as locals question the rationale behind significantly different amounts sanctioned for similar construction works.
As per official orders, fifty percent of the sanctioned Rs 5 lakh-i.e., ?2.5 lakh-has been released for the construction of an additional room and lavatory at the Niabat Office in Rajal, Rajouri, for utilisation during the current financial year.
In contrast, only Rs 50,000- fifty percent of the sanctioned Rs1 lakh-has been released for an identical project at the Niabat Office in Budhal, Rajouri.
Waqar Lone, a concerned resident, has submitted a written representation to the District Magistrate of Rajouri questioning the disparity.
“How is it practically possible to construct a room and lavatory for Rs 50,000 in Budhal, while the same has been sanctioned for Rs 2.5 lakh in Rajal?” he asked, adding that such inconsistencies could compromise the quality and timely execution of public infrastructure, especially in remote regions like Budhal.
Calling the allocation “difficult to comprehend,” Lone urged the district administration to review the matter and ensure fair and equitable distribution of development funds across all areas of Rajouri.
Official response to queries on the matter is awaited.
