JAMMU : In a decisive move to curb the rising menace of drug trafficking, the Jammu District Police successfully apprehended two notorious drug peddlers – a mother-son duo – during a routine patrol in the Chowadhi area of the city. The arrested individuals, identified as Ravi, son of Jinder, and Shamoo, wife of Jinder, both residents of Rajiv Nagar, were found in possession of 49.93 grams of heroin (locally referred to as Chitta). The drugs were seized by the police while they were conducting a Naka (checkpoint) as part of their ongoing operations against drug trafficking in the region.
Following the recovery, a case under FIR No. 12/2025, sections 8/21/22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at the Channi Himmat Police Station. The investigation is now underway, with a primary focus on uncovering the forward and backward linkages of the drug network to which the arrested individuals belong. The police aim to dismantle this dangerous nexus and prevent further distribution of illicit substances in the region.
The operation was meticulously planned and executed by the Channi Himmat Police Station team, led by SHO Inspector Shariq Bhat, along with IC PP Sainik Colony PSI Prince Jasrotia. Their efforts were supported and supervised by SDPO City East Jammu and SP South Jammu, ensuring a comprehensive and coordinated approach.
In a press briefing following the arrests, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu emphasized the district police’s unwavering commitment to eradicating the drug menace from Jammu. The SSP reiterated that the Jammu Police would leave no stone unturned in their efforts to protect the youth and safeguard the well-being of the community from the destructive effects of drug abuse.
“We urge all citizens to join hands with the police in our collective fight against the drug menace. The support of the community is essential in this endeavor. Any information related to drug abuse or peddling can be shared with us confidentially on our helpline number, *9541951100. The identity of the informers will be kept strictly confidential,” the SSP assured.
The SSP also underscored the increasing need for public cooperation in tackling this social evil, highlighting that drug abuse not only jeopardizes the future of individuals but also undermines the security and prosperity of the entire community.
