Akhnoor, January 12: A grand Nagar Kirtan was organized in Akhnoor on Sunday to mark the Prakash Parv of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the founder of the Khalsa Panth and the tenth Guru of the Sikhs. The event was led by Master Ranbir Singh, Joint Secretary of the District Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (DGPC), Jammu, and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of a large number of devotees
from the Sikh community.
The Nagar Kirtan commenced from Tanda in Akhnoor and passed through Daskal, Manda, Nirdosh Chowk, Radha Chowk, and Bus Stand, culminating at the Sant Baba Sundar Singh Ji Gurudwara in Akhnoor.
Thousands of devotees participated in the Nagar Kirtan. The procession was led by the Panj Pyare, with the beautifully decorated Palki Sahib carrying the holy Guru Granth Sahib. The breathtaking Gatka performances by the youth mesmerized the audience.
Throughout the Nagar Kirtan, members of the community displayed great service spirit. Devotees could be seen cleaning the streets, while food stalls offering refreshments, fruits, water, and juices were set up at various points to serve the participants.
The Nagar Kirtan was graced by several prominent personalities, including MLA Mohan Lal, former minister Ajay Sadhotra, former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, DGPC President Ranjit Singh Tohra, Vice President Balwinder Singh, General Secretary Surjeet Singh, and others.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Mohan Lal said:
“This Nagar Kirtan, organized on the auspicious occasion of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Prakash Parv, promotes the values of unity, service, and love in society. Such events play a vital role in keeping our cultural and religious traditions alive. I thank the DGPC and all devotees for making this event a grand success. It inspires us to follow the teachings and ideals of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.”
The successful organization of the Nagar Kirtan was attributed to the efforts of Master Ranbir Singh, Joint Secretary of DGPC; Chairman Arjun Singh; Master Surjeet Singh; Sardar Savran Singh; Sardar Gulwinder Singh; Sardar Rashpal Singh; Sardar Gagandeep Singh; Sardar Hardeep Singh, and others.
The event concluded with a grand Langar at the Sant Baba Sundar Singh Gurudwara, where devotees partook in the Guru’s Prasad. Renowned preacher Bhai Harpreet Singh Makhu from Punjab, along with other ragis, enthralled the congregation with their melodious kirtan and inspiring discourses.
The Nagar Kirtan emerged as a symbol of unity and service, reflecting the core values of the Sikh community.
