Razeem Begam dies in AH GMC who lost 3 children in Badhaal mysterious deaths

Rajouri, December 24: Principal Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri on Tuesday (December 24) suspended five doctors, and sought explanations from two Consultants and 8 pharmacists/nurses over the death of a pregnant woman due to their negligence as was alleged by her husband.
The deceased Razeem Begam (35 yrs) w/o Mohd Rafiq was a mother of 3 minor siblings (two brothers & a sister) who died due to highly infectious pathogen(s) in village Badhaal of Rajouri district between December 12 & 19).
Before the death of Razeem Begam, 8 persons, including 7 minor children of two families died in Badhaal area.
Following the initial seven deaths, a central team of experts from different premier medical institutions, including a team from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) along with a Mobile Laboratory vehicle rushed to Koteranka to investigate the cases and deaths in the Badhaal area.
As the matter was highly sensitive and highlighted at national level, the Health Department Rajouri constituted a ‘high sensitive Badhaal group’ to report any development from this area.
Razeem Begam on Sunday developed urinary retention complications at home and was admitted to CHC Kandi and in the evening referred to AH GMC Rajouri.
But BMO Kandi (Koteranka) forgot to upload her referral to GMC on the group and AH GMC doctors on night duty at casualty/Obs Gayne also did not care to attend her being a patient from Badhaal village and she died the next day (Monday).
Principal GMC, Prof. (Dr) A S Bhatia taking the matter seriously constitutes a high level inquiry committee on Monday and sought a report within 12 hours.
On the report submitted by the committee, Principal GMC took the action & suspended 5 doctors and sought explanations from two consultants and 8 paramedics.
All the doctors and paramedics were on night duty on December 22 when the pregnant woman namely Razeem Begam was referred from CHC Kandi and was admitted in AH GMC at about 7.30 pm and died the next day in the afternoon.
Five doctors suspended and attached in the office of Medical Superintendent Associated Hospital GMC (AHGMC) till the in inquiry is pending include two senior resident Dr Veenu Bharti and Dr Neetu (department of Obs & Gynae), Dr Shakir Ahmed Parry, Dr Shafkat Ulla and Dr A S Rathert (all Casualty Medical Officers).
Explanations sought from the Consultants (on call) include Dr Davinder Kumar (Obs & Gyane) and Dr Brinder Kumar (surgery).
Explanations sought from these doctors include duties they performed and whether they informed the higher ups regarding the deteriorating condition of Razeem Begam.
They were also direct to submit their hourly report to high-level inquiry committee comprising of Medical Superintendent AH GMC and Heads of some departments
17 people, including 1-year-old son Sultan of Razeem Begam from Badhaal & Beinambal villages were under observation in Associated Hospital Government Medical College (AH GMC) and 12 were in Community Health Center CHC) at Kandi and all were discharged on December 19.
Till December 19, Razeem was also in the AHGMC as attendant of her son Sultan and during her stay she got treatment for her five months pregnancy.
