Jammu, Nov 08: In a major success in its ongoing crackdown against narcotics, Jammu Police under its high-impact operation “Sanjeevani” successfully apprehended a drug peddler and recovered a significant quantity of heroin-like substance from his possession. This operation, aimed at dismantling the drug trade in Jammu, led to the arrest of Aryan Sharma, a resident of Kanhal, Bishnah, who was found in possession of 6 grams of a heroin-like substance.
The breakthrough came on the evening of November 8, 2024, when a team from Police Station Bishnah, acting on intelligence inputs, set up a routine check at Kanhal, a known hotspot for drug trafficking in the RS Pura Sub-Division. The team, led by Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Sushil Choudhary, was engaged in a series of targeted anti-drug operations as part of the wider “Sanjeevani” initiative to curb the rising drug menace in the region.
At around 5:30 PM, the police flagged down a motorcyclist who was acting suspiciously. As the team approached, the rider, later identified as Aryan Sharma, attempted to speed away, raising alarm bells among the officers. A swift response from the police resulted in the suspect being intercepted before he could flee the area.
A thorough search of Aryan Sharma’s person and motorcycle revealed a hidden compartment containing 6 grams of what appeared to be heroin-like substance, commonly known as ‘chitta’. The substance, which has become notorious for its deadly impact on youth, was carefully packaged, indicating it was meant for distribution.
During questioning, Aryan Sharma failed to provide any convincing explanation for possessing the narcotics, raising further suspicion that he was part of a larger drug distribution network operating in the area. His erratic behavior and refusal to cooperate led the police to believe he had been actively engaged in the illegal drug trade.
The successful arrest and recovery highlight the growing commitment of Jammu Police to dismantle drug trafficking networks, which have become a serious threat to public health and safety. This operation is another step forward in the ongoing “Sanjeevani” initiative, which was launched to take aggressive action against drug peddlers and suppliers.
The entire operation was carried out under the direct supervision of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) RS Pura, and with the overall guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu. The coordinated efforts of the Bishnah police team and senior officials have been widely praised for their vigilance and swift action, which prevented a potentially larger drug deal from unfolding.
In connection with the recovery, a case has been registered against Aryan Sharma at Police Station Bishnah under FIR No. 185/2024, invoking sections 8/21/22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. These charges pertain to the illegal possession and transportation of narcotics, with additional charges likely to follow as the investigation progresses.
Authorities are now working to trace the source of the heroin-like substance and uncover the larger network behind its distribution. Police believe that Aryan Sharma may be a small player in a larger criminal syndicate involved in the trafficking of illicit drugs across Jammu and its surrounding areas. Investigations are underway to identify other members of the network and halt the flow of narcotics into the region.
The arrest of Aryan Sharma and the recovery of heroin-like substances represent a major victory for law enforcement, sending a strong message to drug peddlers and traffickers. Jammu Police remain resolute in their commitment to eradicating the drug trade and protecting the community from its harmful effects. As investigations continue, authorities are confident that they will be able to identify the larger drug syndicates operating in the region and bring them to justice.
This operation also highlights the importance of the ongoing “Sanjeevani” initiative, which has already led to numerous successful arrests and drug seizures since its inception. Police are determined to continue these efforts, ensuring that Jammu remains a safe place for its citizens, free from the destructive influence of illegal narcotics.
