Rajouri district shines with impressive voter turnout in J&K assembly elections

Jammu, Oct 13: In a resounding affirmation of democratic engagement, the recently concluded assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir have showcased a significant voter turnout, particularly in Rajouri district, where an impressive 71.13% of eligible voters cast their ballots. This turnout exceeds that of the Lok Sabha elections held in May of this year, reflecting the district’s commitment to active civic participation.
This achievement is largely credited to the relentless efforts of District Election Officer (DEO) and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abhishek Sharma, IAS, along with his capable team, including Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADCs) Rajeev Khajuria & Rajiv Magotra, Deputy DEO Shakeel Ji, JKAS and others. Their strategic initiatives and effective outreach programs successfully raised awareness among voters about the importance of conscious polling, ensuring that citizens understood their civic responsibilities.
While the overall voter turnout for Jammu & Kashmir stood at 63.45%, Rajouri’s figures are particularly noteworthy, marking a significant milestone in the democratic process. Under the professional guidance of DEO Sharma, his team worked diligently to engage voters across all 745 polling booths in the district.
Rajouri is characterized by its challenging geography, with many polling booths located in remote and hilly areas. Despite the difficulties posed by the terrain, voters demonstrated remarkable determination, often traveling on foot to ensure their voices were heard. The district encompasses 13 tehsils, 19 blocks, 312 panchayats, 386 villages, and 5 municipalities, highlighting the logistical challenges faced by election officials.
The polling data reveals that Rajouri district consists of five assembly constituencies, with turnout percentages as follows: Kalakote-Sunderbani at 68.82%, Nowshera leading with 73.05%, Rajouri at 70.57%, Banihal at 70.04%, and Thannamandi at 72.88%. Notably, Nowshera assembly constituency achieved the highest voter turnout, showcasing the strong civic spirit among its residents.
