Jammu, Aug 23: SSP Mohan Lal Bhagat, a distinguished police officer and respected social worker, is poised to enter the political arena. After his voluntary resignation was accepted by the Jammu & Kashmir Home Department, Bhagat is set to officially join the BJP tomorrow at their Jammu & Kashmir head office in Trikuta Nagar. He is widely expected to be the party’s candidate for the reserved Akhnoor seat in the upcoming assembly elections.
Bhagat, known for his exemplary service and influential role throughout the Jammu region, has garnered widespread respect and popularity, particularly within the social and religious communities of his constituency. His active involvement in various community activities, coupled with his dedication to education and mentoring youth, has earned him admiration across demographics.
Throughout his distinguished 25-year career in the police force, SSP Mohan Lal Bhagat has held key positions in various districts, establishing a strong presence across the Jammu division. His illustrious career has been marked by numerous accolades, including the Police Medal for Gallantry (2002 and 2010), the Parakram Padak (2008), the DGP’s Commendation Medal (2012), and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (2020). He also received the Central Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Training (2021-22) and the Nelson Mandela Peace Award (2022) for his contributions to social welfare. St. Mother Teresa University conferred upon him an honorary doctorate in Good Governance and Social Welfare.
As a prominent member of the Bhagat community, the second largest demographic in Akhnoor, Bhagat enjoys strong support that extends beyond his community to other local groups.
