Jammu, August 11: Railway Police (GRP) Jammu have launched a massive search operation targeting Jammu-bound trains to prevent sabotage and curb illegal activities under the supervision of SSP Railways. This initiative has already yielded a significant success with the seizure of 10 kilograms of Ganja and an unmarked pistol during a surprise inspection.
The operation, aimed at ensuring the safety and security of rail passengers and preventing the transportation of illegal substances and weapons, involved a thorough inspection of a Jammu-bound train. During the check, the GRP team detected a suspicious bag, which, upon further inspection, was found to contain 10 packets of Ganja, with a total weight of 10 kilograms.
The estimated market value of the seized Ganja is around ₹12 lakh, considering a market price of ₹1.25 lakh per kilogram. Meanwhile, an unmarked pistol, lacking any factory manufacturing mark, was also recovered from the bag, raising concerns about its origin and intended use.
An FIR (No. 09/2024) has been registered at Police Station Railway (GRP) Jammu under Sections 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and 3/25 of the Arms Act. Investigations are underway to identify the individuals involved in the transportation of these illegal substances and the weapon.
This successful operation underscores the crucial role of the Railway Police in safeguarding railway security and combating criminal activities. The seizure of a significant quantity of drugs and an illegal firearm highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in preventing the transportation of illicit items through the railway network.
