Jammu, June 19: A recent RTI reply has exposed a potential case of corruption within the Jammu North Sub-Registrar’s office, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the department and the blatant disregard for legal procedures.
Mohit Mehra, a Jammu resident, filed an RTI application (dated 07/05/2024) seeking information regarding a General Power of Attorney (GPA) executed by Reena Kumari, wife of Sanjay Kumar, resident of Janipur Colony, Jammu, in favor of Lalit S/O Om Prakash. The GPA, registered on June 16, 2023, under token no. 202300045153, covers land measuring 33 Kanals 06 Marlas bearing Khasra No. 34/1, 18/2, 23/2, 24/1, 4, 23, 60/1, 21, 22, 24/1, 66/1, 5, 6/1, situated at Village Pattli Khurud, Tehsil & District Palwal, Haryana.
The RTI reply, a resounding “No” to question 3, which sought information on whether Reena Kumari had provided any legal documents to authenticate her authority to execute the GPA, reveals a startling disregard for legal procedures. The reply also states that only Reena Kumari’s Aadhar Card was produced raising questions how and why was such a documented executed without valid proof of Reena Kumari being the advisor of the company and legal heir.
In fact Reena Kumari according to documents has herself made a documents declaring herself as Advisor And legal heir and still the then Sub -Registrar executed a legal document in her favour without verifying her original documents related to her claim.
This raises a critical question: how could a KAS officer, acting as the then Sub-Registrar Jammu North, execute a legal document without demanding and verifying the necessary legal proof from the applicant?
Further investigation reveals that only a Aadhar Card was used as justification for executing the GPA, raising concerns about the laxity and lack of scrutiny involved.
This incident points to a possible pattern of corruption, with sources alleging that the then Sub-Registrar has likely engaged in numerous similar fraudulent transactions during her tenure amassing wealth worth crores. While the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lieutenant Governor JKUT Manoj Sinha emphasize their commitment to curbing corruption, the appointment of corrupt officials to key positions raises serious concerns.
The RTI reply clearly shows that the GPA was executed without valid legal documents. This raises concerns about the then Sub-Registrar’s integrity and whether she was influenced by monetary considerations in overlooking these critical legal requirements.
The public demands a thorough inquiry into this incident, holding the responsible officers accountable. Additionally, the practice of placing corrupt officers in crucial positions must be addressed to ensure that those entrusted with upholding the law act with integrity and fairness.
The incident underscores the urgency for comprehensive reforms within the Revenue Department to ensure accountability, transparency, and adherence to legal procedures. The public deserves a government that prioritizes honest and ethical governance, protecting citizens from such illicit practices and ensuring the rule of law prevails.
