Akhnoor, May 02: In an unprecedented move, Jammu & Kashmir Police have attached property worth crores belonging to a notorious gangster absconding under a Public Safety Act (PSA) warrant in the Akhnoor subdivision of Jammu district. This landmark action, a first in the history of J&K, sets a strong precedent for cracking down on criminal activities and deterring habitual offenders.
Acting under the supervision of SSP Jammu Vinod Kumar, IPS, Akhnoor police led by SDPO Mohan Sharma initiated proclamation and attachment proceedings against Mukesh Kumar alias Gesha, a resident of Akhnoor, who had been evading arrest to avoid the execution of a PSA warrant issued by the District Magistrate.
The police adhered to the provisions outlined in sections 12(a) & (b) of the Public Safety Act 1978, followed by sections 82 and 83(4)a, c & d of the CrPC, to compel the absconding gangster’s appearance and ensure the execution of the arrest warrant. A proclamation notice was issued, directing Mukesh Kumar to surrender within 30 days, which he failed to comply with.
Consequently, a joint team of police and revenue officials, led by SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Sharma, SHO Akhnoor Tariq Ahmed, and Tehsildar Akhnoor Naresh Kumar, under the supervision of SP Rural Brijesh Sharma, executed the attachment order on Mukesh Kumar’s immovable property, measuring four Kanals of land in Khasra No. 901 Gurha Jagir. The proclamation notice was also prominently displayed throughout Akhnoor.
Mukesh Kumar, a history-sheeter at Akhnoor Police Station, has a long record of criminal activities and has been evading arrest for an extended period.
This ground-breaking initiative by Jammu Police, spearheaded by SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Sharma, has been met with appreciation and support from local residents who commend the authorities for setting a strong example and taking decisive action against criminal elements. This move is expected to serve as a deterrent to gangsters and other habitual offenders, paving the way for a safer and more secure environment in the region.
It is worth mentioning here that SDPO Mohan Sharma had earlier too seized properties of notorious drug peddlers and criminals of the area sending a clear message that he means business.
