Akhnoor, April 29: In a major victory for law enforcement, Akhnoor Police, under the supervision of SDPO Mohan Sharma, have successfully busted a motor vehicle theft gang operating in the region. The operation, aptly named “Operation Avatar,” led to the recovery of stolen property worth lakhs and the arrest of three individuals involved in the racket.
The operation stemmed from a complaint filed on April 22, 2024, by Ram Dass, son of Lal Chand, regarding the theft of his Splendor motorcycle. Akhnoor Police swiftly registered a case under FIR No. 70/2024 under section 379 of the Indian Penal Code and initiated a thorough investigation.
DSP Mohan Sharma, known for his stringent approach to crime, formed a specialized team to tackle the case. The team meticulously analysed technical data, reviewed CCTV footage, and studied the modus operandi of potential suspects. Their efforts led to the identification and subsequent arrest of three individuals: Amit Pawa alias Sundi, son of Ashok Kumar; Rakesh Choudhary alias Nathu, son of Bagh Singh; and Sunny Kumar alias Sunny Pagal, son of Yash Pal. All three accused hail from Devipur Jourian in Jammu.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in the motorcycle theft. A dedicated team comprising SHO Akhnoor Tariq Ahmed, Chowki Officer Jourian Sanjeet Singh, Chowki Officer Chowki Choura Pankaj Katoch, and PSI Karnail Singh successfully recovered the stolen Splendor motorcycle along with five additional motorcycles of different makes from various locations across Jammu district. This operation also led to the resolution of another case registered under FIR No. 31/2023 at Akhnoor Police Station.
The recovered stolen property, estimated to be worth over 7 lakhs, also included two gas cylinders, two mattresses, two containers, a transformer, and a gas stove. Authorities anticipate further arrests and recoveries as the investigation progresses under the supervision of SP Rural Brijesh Sharma.
It is worthwhile to mention here that since assuming his role in Akhnoor, DSP Mohan Sharma has implemented a strict policing approach, leading to the apprehension and detention of numerous criminals and drug peddlers under the Public Safety Act (PSA) or the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PITNDPS). This has forced many remaining offenders to relocate their operations outside Akhnoor. Sources indicate that authorities are also preparing to seize property worth lakhs belonging to a fugitive criminal, further tightening the noose around criminal elements in the area.
