Jammu, March 22: In a brazen display of audacity, landgrabbers have once again encroached upon prized Jammu Development Authority (JDA) land in Paloura, erecting a boundary wall under the darkness of night.
Despite repeated warnings and previous efforts by JDA to reclaim the encroached properties, the landgrabbers have continued their illegal activities unabated.
Sources reveal that the various encroachments extend to over 100 Kanals of JDA land in the area, indicating a systemic failure on the part of JDA officials to safeguard their assets. There are even accusations of collusion between certain JDA officials and the landgrabbers, further complicating the situation.
The covert construction of a boundary wall on Khasra No. 1080 and 1080/1 in Paloura during the night highlights the audacity of the landgrabbers and the lack of enforcement by JDA authorities.
When contacted for comment, the JDA Tehsildar pledged to promptly assemble a team of officers tomorrow to address the matter and assured that he would inform the relevant authorities.
However, questions linger as to why JDA continues to be caught off guard and why its response has been consistently sluggish in the face of such flagrant violations resulting in its land being encroached time and again.
As mentioned earlier, over 100 Kanals of valuable JDA land have already been encroached upon by landgrabbers without any intervention from the JDA, indicating a troubling nexus at some level.
This latest incident raises concerns about the effectiveness of JDA’s measures to protect its properties and the need for swift and decisive action to curb the rampant encroachment by landgrabbers.
Despite previous initiatives by JDA, including a recent land retrieval drive in Paloura, the encroachment problem persists, pointing to deeper issues within the organization or a growing boldness among the landgrabbers to flout authority with impunity.
It may be recalled that Jammu Jottings had reported in its February 1, 2024 edition under headline, “JDA Takes Bold Action: Initiates Land Retrieval Drive in Paloura to Reclaim Encroached Properties”, that JDA has woken up from its slumber and initiated land retrieving process at Paloura as a team of JDA officers had visited the spot, on January 31, 2024 and erected sign boards on the land declaring it as JDA land.
At that time JDA had issued a stern warning to landgrabbers as well as its own officers of serious consequences if found involved in any illegal activity, but the land grabbers don’t seem to be bothered by their warnings’.
The burning question now is who will emerge victorious in this struggle.
Will the JDA take decisive action to reclaim its prized land, or will the landgrabbers persist in usurping JDA land worth crores, while the JDA remains inactive, thus leaving its valuable property vulnerable to further encroachment?
