Jammu, Dec 04: In a bid to overcome overloading in passenger vehicles and ensure safety of passengers, Traffic Police City Jammu has launched punitive legal action and registered FIR against the drivers, who facilitate the overloading and put the life of passengers in danger. During such exercise, on the basis of complaint the driver of the vehicle bearing registration number JK02BJ 9776 was found carrying excess passengers, which were outside the body of the vehicle and endangering the life of the passengers as well as the commuters. A case under FIR No.505/2023 U/s 279/336 IPC was registered in PS Nagrota against the delinquent driver for overloading and negligence on his part. The vehicle was seized on the spot.
The SSP Traffic City Jammu Faisal Qureshi has appealed the general public that they should not board in the overloaded passenger vehicles and inform the concerned Traffic Authority if any passenger vehicle is found indulging in overloading. The general public is also advised to strictly follow traffic rules and be a part of smooth traffic regulation for their own safety. Further, it is reiterated that violators shall be dealt strictly in case of non-adherence to the traffic rules.
The president of All J&K Passengers’ Welfare Association (AJKPWA), Pt RC Sharma appreciated the SSP Traffic Faisal Qureshi for registering FIR against the driver of the overloaded matador. He urged the SSP Traffic to register the case against the owner of matador too so that a strong message be sent to all violators. He also asked the SSP Jammu Traffic that some Goods Carriers at Indira Chowk are instrumental in overloading the passenger vehicles with commercial goods, which are posing severe threats to the passengers’ lives. The loading of commercial goods on the rooftop of the passenger busses must be immediately stopped and in case it is found than FIR must be registered against the bus driver, owner of passenger bus, owner of commercial goods and owner of Goods Carriers/Transport Companies.
