Akhnoor police busts mysterious ‘Drugs Supply Module’ in Jammu Central Jail

Akhnoor, Dec 04: The vigilant stance of SHO PS Akhnoor Zaheer Mushtaq and SDPO Akhnoor DSP Mohan Sharma besides police teams have busted sensational and unbelievable drugs supply module in Central Jail Kot Balwal, Jammu, which is supposed to be highly guarded jail by the security forces. The entire operation was conducted under the overall supervision of SSP Jammu Dr Vinod Kumar and SP Jammu Rural Rahul Charak.
There are credible inputs that the prisoners are often using mobile phones inside the Jammu Central Jail, which is matter of great concern and poses threat too. This indicates that the internal administration of said Jail has badly failed to maintain the jail’s norms and ethics. There is dire need to overhaul the jail administration and officers posted in Jammu Central Jail to be replaced. In this regard, government must order a CBI inquiry to buckle the officers/officials responsible for such huge lapses on their part.
As per the reports, on November 22, 2023 Police Station Gharota received information that a Cosco ball has been found in the premises of Jammu Central Jail Kot Balwal during routine search. The search party, on opening of the ball found narcotics (heroin like substance) wrapped in capsules besides a pen drive. Then the concerned police have registered a case under FIR No 92/2023 under sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act & section 42 of Prison Act and started the investigation.
Whereas, just after six days once again on November 28, 2023, police received the information regarding recovery of a Cosco ball in the premises of Central Jail Kot Balwal, Jammu. The ball was again broke-opened to check it, the team found narcotics (heroin like substance) wrapped in polyethylene was found. In this regard another case was registered under FIR No 97/2023 under sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act and section 42 of Prisons Act at Police Station Gharota and investigation was initiated.
Sensing the gravity of situation and frequent occurring of Cosco balls finding incidents in the premises of highly guarded Jammu Central Jail a very sensitive location, SP Jammu Rural Rahul Charak acted and constituted a special team headed by SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Sharma and comprising of SHO Akhnoor Zaheer Mushtaq and SHO Gharota Joginder Singh. The team was given a mandate to investigate the ball-finding incidents in the premises of Jammu Central Jail.
The special team activated human intelligence system and collected all technical data of jail periphery. The team also conducted a survey of jail inmates’ mates who were lodged in jail in recent past. Whereas the personal network and efforts of Zaheer Mushtaq was instrumental in tracing the accused.
While collecting important information both human and technical and corroborating same with records of jail inmates, police team got vital leads. After proper identification of suspects police teams conducted many raids and arrested three accused from different places of Jammu. During questioning the three accused have confessed their involvement in the crimes.
From their possession two sharp edged weapons (Tokas) and a vehicle bearing registration no JK02AV 1441 has also been recovered.
The accused have been identified and are as – 1) Rahul Kumar @ Sundi son of Bishan Dass resident of Makhanpur Bishnah; 2) Rahul Kumar @ Daku son of Som Nath resident of Kothi Khour, Mira Sahib; and 3) Arjun Kumar @ Shotu son of Sham Lal resident of Koliyan, RS Pura.
The investigation is still going on and more arrests are expected in the days to come.
