Five arrested out of 8 booked, search on for absconders: SSP

Rajouri, June 19: Thanamandi police in Rajouri district have arrested five persons, out of booked eight under section 307 IPC, for their involvement in the murder of a man over a land dispute between two families who happened to be close relatives.
The deceased has been identified as Shafiq Ahmed resident of village Khablan and on the written complaint of deceased’s wife, namely Nagina Akhter, a case under sections 307/323/147 IPC (FIR No.82/2023) has been registered against eight persons, including Mohd Taj & his three sons and three sons of Basharat Hussain & others.
After the death of Shafiq Ahemd during treatment at GMC hospital in Rajouri the police added section 302 (murder) to an already registered case.
Sources said that both the families are close relatives and had a dispute over a piece of land to be used for a separate lane.
On Sunday late evening hours, the dispute took an ugly turn and lead to a physical clash resulting in critical injuries to Shafiq Ahmed and minor injuries to his few family members.
Shafiq was rushed to Government Medical College Associated Hospital (GMCAH) at Rajouri where he succumbs to injuries at about midnight.
“Over the death of Shafiq Ahmed, the police added section 302 to an already registered case and special police teams headed by SDPO Thanamandi, Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed, and SHO, Inspector Azhar Hilal swung into action and during raids at various locations arrested five accused,” said SSP, Amritpal Singh.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohd Taj & his son Javed Ahmed; Mohd Farooq, Mohd Jameel & Mohd Zaman, sons of Basharat Hussain.
Other accused booked in this case and are absconding include Mushtaq Ahmed & Ashfaq Ahmed sons of Mohd Taj, and Qamar Bhatti son of Javed Iqbal.
“The accused have been taken into custody and three others are at large, and teams were deputed to arrest them. Prima facie some land dispute is suspected to be one cause of this murder act with further investigation as well as legal proceedings are going on into the matter,” said SSP.
“There are constitutional provisions available to deal with any kind of dispute and people should follow the constitutional redressal mechanism and taking the law into own hands has no acceptance both in society as well as under the law,” he added.
He said that action as per the law of the land will be ensured against whosoever is going involved in the heinous crime.
