Rajouri, Mar 3: In a major success under a special drive launched by the Rajouri & Poonch police under the supervision of DIG Rajouri-Poonch Police Range, Dr. Haseeb Mughal against drug mafia & drug trafficking, district Poonch police on Friday seized a huge quantity of narcotics (heroin), about Rs 2 crore cash and a pistol along with ammunition.
The recovery was made from the house of a notorious drug peddler, having links with inter-state drug smugglers, namely Rafi Dhana resident of village Dhana situated along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mandi tehsil of Poonch district.
It is pertinent to mention here that at present Rafi Dhana is in jail as he was detained under Public Safety Act (PSA) in 2022.
The police said that on specific inputs, a police party from Mandi police station headed by Inspector Sunil along with personnel of Army & CRPF searched the house of Rafi in village Dana in the morning on Friday.
During a search of the house, the police reportedly recovered 4 bags containing 7 packets of heroin (7 kgs), more than Rs 2 crore cash (counting still on); 1- Pistol along with one magazine & 10 rounds, and 7 rounds of Self Loading Gun (SLR).
As no official statement has yet been released in this connection, however, when contacted DIG RP Range, Dr. Haseeb Mughal said: “No comments at this juncture. It is (search operation) still on”.
With the recovery of the huge amount of cash and narcotics (heroin), Poonch police in coordination with Central Security Forces busted a major Narco Terror Module in the presence of a Magistrate and prominent citizens of the area.
In this connection, a case under relevant sections has been registered at the Mandi police station.
“The nexus of this module with Punjab-based narcotics smugglers are being investigated,” said the police.
In the month of December last year, while briefing the media at Rajouri DIG, Dr. Haseeb Mughal said; “A special drive was launched to curb the drug mafia, drug trafficking in Rajouri-Poonch border districts, due to which 82 FIRs have been lodged in these border districts in the last 11 months, out of which 35 FIRs have been registered in Rajouri district and 47 in Poonch district”.
“While taking action against notorious smugglers, NDPS PSA has been imposed on four smugglers in Rajouri & on three in Poonch district” he added.
