DFO orders enquiry into illegal cutting and felling of Khair trees

Jammu, Mar 02: Why the Divisional Forest Officer Jammu has included the name Ranger Officer Kalidhar Pawan Sharma in the enquiry committee to enquire about his misdeeds? What is the fun of constituting such committee in which the officer responsible for the crime being inducted? Will this enquiry committee yield results or get deflated? These are some very hard questions and the senior forest officers may intervene and immediate re-constitute a committee excluding Pawan Sharma to ascertain the fact.
The issue of illegal cutting/felling of Khair in Khour and Akhnoor sub division has been taken up by the department and they constituted the committee to enquire the illegal cutting/felling of Khair trees. This is not the first time, that in Kalidhar range the illegal cutting and feeling is going but this forest range is notorious in illegal cutting and felling of trees and the Range Officer Pawan Sharma is unmoved over it.
The senior forest officers must step-in in this issue and order a high level enquire in this case to know the actual fraud and crime in this case. In last year too, the illegal cutting and felling in Kalidhar Range was in full swing. Then also Jammu Jottings exposed them and tried to stop the illegal cutting and felling.
The concerned DFO has constituted a committee vide its office letter No DFO-J/8732-38 dated 02-03-2023 and included six members including Sameer Rahi Range Officer; Pawan Sharma Range Officer Kalidhar; Varinder Sharma Range Officer; Sourav Chandel Forester; Vinay Sharma Forester; and Amit Gupta Forester.
The committee was asked to furnish the enquiry report within three days positively. The committee also enquire into the complaint lodged by the local people to stop the illegal cutting and felling of trees. In the order for constitution of committee it is specific mentioned that DFO came through the medium of news paper report dated 2nd march 2023 published in Jammu Jottings and in this view the DFO has ordered an enquiry.
Despite the ordering of enquiry, the reports pouring in office of Jammu Jottings that still illegal cutting and feeling of trees going on. The concerned DFO must arrest the illegal cutting and felling of trees as only ordering of enquiry will not serve the purpose.
