Rajouri, Feb 10: On one hand, the government claims the appointment of highly qualified teachers, adequate infrastructure, and basic facilities in the government schools, but the ground realities are different and many government schools, especially in remote areas, lack such claims.
The high school at Gundi in Khawas Tehsil in Rajouri district is a glaring example of neglect on the part of the School Education Department.
The school at Gundi was first opened in 1956 as a Primary school and was upgraded to middle standard in 2006, and in 2019 it was again upgraded as a high school.
But, the Education Department failed miserably to provide infrastructure and other basic facilities to this school.
At present student-teacher ratio is 60: 1 which speaks volumes itself about the failure of the department.
“A good number of government schools in Budhal Assembly Segment have functional toilet facilities for both girls and boys, but government high school at Gundi do not have such facilities, leading to unhygienic conditions for the students Even the school has no drinking water facility within the premises,” said the BJP senior leader, Manzzor Naik.
He also pointed out the shortage of teachers, lack of required infrastructure, no library facility, and even no computer facilities for the students in an era where everything is dependent on technology, in high school at Gundi.
Manzoor Naik urged Lt Governor Administration to intervene and to direct the concerned officers/officials of the School Education Department to resolve these grievances at the earliest so that poor students of this fa-flung region could avail better education facilities, which is their fundamental right.
