Jammu, Dec 1: Advocating for early submission of delimitation report to the Centre, former J&K chief minister and veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday demanded that the assembly elections must be conducted at the earliest and that the statehood is restored for the Jammu and Kashmir for the development and peace in the region.
“Delimitation process in Jammu and Kashmir should be completed as soon as possible and the report must be submitted to the Central Government by the end of February 2022,” Azad told reporters on the sidelines of a public rally in bordering Poonch district.
Azad is on a four-day tour to border hamlets of Poonch and Rajouri districts.
“In the months of May-June, the electoral process for the formation of the assembly should be completed so that elections be conducted after completing the delimitation process,” former leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha said, adding that not only the political parties, but every common man wanted statehood be restored to Jammu and Kashmir for which elections should be conducted soon.
Earlier in the day addressing a rally, Azad appreciated the people of Poonch and Rajouri stating that these two districts are situated close to the border and terrorists make attempts of infiltration from across the border.
“As Pakistan keeps disrupting peace in these areas since 1947, but the people of Rajouri and Poonch are standing tall as border guards with the security forces,” said the former chief minister of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. UNI
