Cross LoC trade: NIA carries out raids at multiple locations in J&K

Jammu, Oct 3: The sleuths of National Investigation Agency (NIA) along with Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday raided several locations in cross Line of Control (LoC) trade case across the Union Territory.
NIA spokesman said the team with the assistance of J&K Police, CRPF and ITBP, conducted searches at nine locations in Poonch district at the premises of the suspected LoC traders in relation.
The spokesman said the case was registered on December 9, 2016, by NIA under Section 17 of UA (P) Act, 1967. The LoC Trade was started in the year 2008 as a part of confidence-building measure between J&K and PoK.
“During the searches on Sunday, documents, digital devices and other incriminating materials have been recovered from the premises of the suspects,” he added.
The current case is related to the large scale transfer of funds from Pakistan to India through the import of California Almonds (badam-giri) and other items via the Cross LoC Trade Facilitation Centres (TFCs) located at Salamabad, Uri, District Baramulla and Chakkan-Da-Bag, District Poonch.
“These funds were purportedly being used for fomenting terrorism and separatism in Jammu and Kashmir,” said the spokesman.
He said it was found during the investigation that some of the traders having excess imports were channelising the surplus profit generated to terror organisations while others are suspected to have links with proscribed terrorist organisations.
Further investigation in the case is being carried out, said the spokesman. UNI
