Celebrations and Celebrations

India since long is known as a country for its various fairs and festivals. Most of these fairs and festivals are associated with mythological stories, deities (including local deities), seasons, crops and some with the life of local or National heroes. Many festivals are celebrated in association with some incidents which inspired the people or have played a significant role in the socio-cultural and religious life of the people. But till the last few years there had been perhaps not a single fair or festival which in any way is related to the political aspirations of a party or leader. Though several festivals and fairs have their origin linked with political parties and leaders but none of them have any political inclination or is with a motive to project the image of a political party or of a political leader. But now we have a numberless addition to the list of our fairs and festivals. But these new fairs and festivals are completely politically motivated and with the sole purpose of propagating the party and above all the leader. Another prominent motive of the newly created fairs and festivals is to divert the attention of the masses from the basic issues, from the basic requirements and even from the current situation of chaos. Here is hardly a day or week when there is not a fair or festival being organized or celebrated by the government at national, state, town, block and village level. The subject and theme of many of such fairs and festivals is irrelevant, unimpressive and even funny that one feels himself in a position where he can neither oppose or denounce such celebrations. We have ‘Teeka Utsav’, ‘Jal Utsav’, ‘Corona Utsav’, ‘Kisaan Utsav’, and so many utsav’s while on the ground all those being mentioned in the ‘Utsav’s’ are ignored and denied their rights. What is the fun of these ‘Utsav’s’ is not even to those involved in celebrations and the arrangers of celebrations. Even several government officers and departments also find themselves in a very embarrassing condition while being a part of these unwantedly. Above all the money being wasted in such celebrations is the money of the public and instead of providing facilities to the masses this money is being utilized for personal benefits.
