World Heart Day celebrated at GMC & AH Rajouri and CHC at Kotranka

Rajouri, Sept 29: The theme for World Heart Day-2021 is ‘Use Heart to Connect’, which is celebrated every year on September 29 by the World Heart Federation (WHF) to inform people across the world that Cardiovascular disease (CVD) including heart disease and stroke, is the world’s leading cause of death claiming 18.6 million lives every year.
On this occasion, on Wednesday the Department of General Medicine (DoGM), Government Medical College and Associated Hospital (GMC&AH) Rajouri organized an awareness session for the common populace on the prevalence of cardiovascular disease and the precautions to be taken to live a healthy life.
World Heart Day was also celebrated at Community Health Center (CHC) at Kotranka in Kandi health Block which was also joined by Dr.Shamim Un Nisa, Chief Medical officer (CMO).
At GMC&AH the function was chaired by Dr. Brij Mohan, Principal while besides a large number of prominent citizens Dr. Vijay Gupta, HoD ENT; Dr. Shalinder, HoD, Orthopedic; Dr. Mehmood Bajar, Medical Superintendent; Mohinder Pal, Administrative Officer, and senior faculty members were also present.
First students of GMC took health pledge which was followed by a discussion with Dr.Jameel Ul Hassan, Head of DoGM.
A theme-based play on World Heart Day was staged by MBBS and B.Sc Paramedical students of GMC Rajouri, which was followed by a poster presentation on “World Heart Day” and speeches along with documentaries related to the theme and the day.
Dr Jameel Ul Hussain shared thoughts on preventive and intervention aspects of coronary artery diseases.
“Avoid known risk factors such as an unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, harmful use of alcohol and tobacco to maintain a healthy heart” said Dr. Brij Mohan.
The incidence of heart disease has acquired epidemic dimensions, with an alarming number of people succumbing to the disease. Ironically, youth falling victims to this disease at a ripe age is a matter of grave concern, he added.
At CHC, Kotranka Dr. Shamim Un Nisa, CMO said: “World Health Day is celebrated to create a platform that informs the people about the dangers of cardiovascular disease or CVD which is a leading cause of death across the world”.
World Heart Day strives to educate people about controlling risk factors and how small steps help in avoiding about 80% of premature deaths due to heart diseases/strokes, she added.
Dr.Iqbal Malik, BMO Kandi Health Block thanked Dr.Shamim Un Nisa for holding such awareness camps in a remote health block.
