The Indian Army, under the initiative of Operation Sadbhavana, inaugurated a stitching and tailoring training course for women in Keri village, located in the Akhnoor region of Jammu & Kashmir. The program aims to empower underprivileged women by providing them with practical skills to support self-reliance and economic independence.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the Village Panchayat, Keri, and attended by Shri Deepak Kumar, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (North), Jammu; Shri Mohit Bharti, CDPO and Zonal Head, Kote Balwal; officials from the Indian Army; local dignitaries; and a large number of women from the village.
The 30-day course will offer hands-on training in stitching and tailoring. Each participant will be provided with sewing machines and training materials to ensure effective skill development. The program is expected to open new avenues for livelihood generation and small-scale entrepreneurship.
An Army official addressing the gathering said, “This initiative is part of the Indian Army’s continuous efforts to uplift rural communities. By imparting employable skills to women, we aim to promote financial independence and foster a spirit of entrepreneurship.”
Residents of Keri village welcomed the initiative and expressed gratitude towards the Indian Army for its commitment to community development. They said such programs not only improve the standard of living but also strengthen the bond between the Army and the local population.
The Indian Army’s Operation Sadbhavana focuses on promoting education, healthcare, skill development, and welfare activities in border and remote areas. The launch of the stitching course is yet another step in the Army’s ongoing mission to contribute meaningfully to nation-building and social upliftment.
