The Indian Journalist Association (IJA), dedicated to promoting ethical and responsible journalism, celebrated its 17th anniversary today along with the inauguration of its state office at Maisuma, Lal Chowk, Srinagar.
Since its founding in 2008, the IJA has actively supported journalists’ rights, advocated for press freedom, and promoted high standards of reporting across India. Key achievements include:
Journalist Safety Advocacy: Campaigning for stronger journalist protection laws.
Ethical Reporting Initiatives: Organizing awards and training workshops to combat sensationalism and misinformation.
Digital Era Support: Helping journalists adapt to challenges like AI use and paid news concerns.
Recognition of Excellence: Honouring outstanding reporting impacting public opinion and policy.
Mr. Manzoor Pakhtoon, State Head of IJA, said,
“Our 17th anniversary reflects the dedication of journalists nationwide. We remain committed to defending democracy, protecting media rights, and promoting truthful reporting for sustainable development.”
Honourable Mr. Ahsan Pardesi, MLA Lal Chowk, lauded the opening of the state office, calling it a key step in strengthening the IJA’s mission. Senior journalist Itifaq Ahmad Bhat and activist Faheem Ahmad Reshi also attended, expressing strong support for the association’s role under Mr. Pakhtoon’s leadership.
