Amidst climate challenges, docs in SDH Bhaderwah remained on toes to treat patients

Jammu, Sept 5: Amidst recent weather challenges like flash floods, landslides and cloudbursts across the Jammu Division, a team of doctors remained on toes to treat patients in Sub-District Hospital in Bhaderwah town of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials here today said that Bhaderwah was among parts of Jammu and Kashmir that witnessed extremely tough conditions during seven consecutive days of heavy rains and calamity as roads were blocked, communication was disrupted, and people struggled to access essential services. “In the midst of these challenges, Sub-District Hospital Bhaderwah became the only ray of hope for many patients in need of urgent medical care,” they said.
Officials stated that amidst this crisis, Consultant Gynaecologist Dr. Varsha Kotwal and her team displayed extraordinary dedication and courage.
“Within just three days, they successfully performed seven major high-risk surgeries, several minor surgical procedures, and multiple deliveries,” they said adding that in addition, they attended to several emergency cases requiring immediate intervention.
Each patient was managed on priority, and both mothers and newborns were kept safe despite the odds, they added.
They said that handling such high-risk surgeries during adverse weather was not only a challenge but also a test of commitment. Dr. Kotwal and her team rose to the occasion, working tirelessly round the clock to ensure that no patient was left unattended. The Operation Theatre remained functional 24×7 with the cooperation of Dr. Pawan (Anaesthetist), supported by the dedicated Operatio Theatre team including Amresh, Rishi and Naseer. Alongside them, the labour room team and other supporting staff stood shoulder to shoulder, ensuring every critical case was managed smoothly and successfully, they said. The team however, extended gratitude to the Health Secretary J&K, Director Health Services Jammu, Deputy Commissioner Doda, and Chief Medical Officer Doda for their continuous guidance and support during this difficult time, which kept their morale high and operations running smoothly.
