Renowned Health Activist Sukesh C. Khajuria Calls for Immediate Top-Level Reshuffle

Jammu, Jul 17: In an exclusive and hard-hitting interaction, eminent senior social and health activist Mr. Sukesh C. Khajuria voiced grave concern over the deteriorating state of affairs at the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Jammu, following a recent confrontation between doctors and attendants of a patient. The disturbing incident, which unfolded within the premises of the region’s premier health institution, has triggered widespread public outrage and renewed calls for administrative accountability. Speaking to Jammu Jottings, Mr. Khajuria did not mince words as he demanded an immediate and comprehensive top-level reshuffle in the hospital’s administrative and clinical leadership. He asserted that the current management has miserably failed to uphold the standards of discipline, maintain security, and ensure optimal healthcare delivery.
“The situation at GMC Jammu has reached an alarming point. What happened yesterday is not just a stray incident – it reflects a deep and dangerous trust deficit between doctors and patients’ families. This is symptomatic of administrative collapse,” said Mr. Khajuria during the interview.
The veteran activist, who is known for his consistent advocacy of public health reforms, emphasized that discipline and professionalism – the twin pillars of any medical institution – are severely eroding under the current regime. He noted that the clinical side of operations has been grossly neglected, a lapse he described as “unforgivable and tragic” for a tertiary healthcare centre serving lakhs.
“We need visionary and competent leadership at the top. The administration must be held accountable for its inaction and inefficiency. The hospital, once a beacon of healthcare in the region, is now in disarray – both clinically and administratively,” Mr. Khajuria lamented.
In a heartfelt appeal, Mr. Khajuria urged the public to cooperate with doctors and avoid confrontational behaviour, but also urged the government to act swiftly in restoring order and confidence within the institution.
“Doctors deserve respect, but they also need proper support and direction from the administration. The government must act now – reshuffle the top brass, bring in efficient leadership, and overhaul the system. The delay is costing lives and public trust,” he stated.
It is pertinent to mention that the flashpoint incident occurred yesterday when attendants of a patient, allegedly dissatisfied with the treatment provided, entered into a heated altercation with the medical staff. The clash not only disrupted services but also highlighted the fragile doctor-patient relationship in the current atmosphere of administrative laxity.
Health experts and civil society members have echoed Mr. Khajuria’s sentiment, urging the Health Department to take corrective measures without further delay. The GMC Jammu, which once symbolized excellence in public health, is now seen as battling internal disorder, and Mr. Sukesh C.
