JDA Launches Major Crackdown on Encroachments; 13.5 Kanals of Prime Land Reclaimed Across Jammu

Jammu, Jul 17: In a resolute and high-impact anti-encroachment operation, the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) has successfully reclaimed over 13.5 kanals of illegally encroached government land across multiple prime locations in Jammu district. The crackdown was launched under the firm directions of Vice Chairman Mr Rupesh Kumar (IAS), with active support from the District Administration, reaffirming the administration’s zero-tolerance stance against unlawful occupation of state land.
The multi-location operation was meticulously executed in Sidhra (Tehsil Jammu Khas), Kalka Colony (Tehsil Bahu), and Paloura (Tehsil Jammu North) – all areas known for growing instances of unauthorized constructions on JDA-owned land.
In Sidhra, several illegal constructions, including permanent and semi-permanent structures such as boundary walls and recently built concrete buildings, were demolished. The JDA teams, aided by local law enforcement, acted swiftly to restore the integrity of the land.
At Kalka Colony, the demolition squads targeted unauthorized encroachments that had not only taken over JDA land but also blocked public access to the Shamshan Ghat (cremation ground). The obstruction was cleared, restoring the dignity and accessibility of a critical community facility.
In Paloura, JDA reclaimed encroached land falling under Khasra No. 1080. Illegal occupants were evicted and the land was secured by installing fencing and official warning signage to deter any future encroachments.
The on-ground operations were led by Ms. Rashi Dutta and Ms. Megha Gupta, Tehsildars JDA, under the direct supervision of Shri Garbi Rashid Dar, Director Land Management, JDA. Speaking on the occasion, the Director emphasized that the authority is committed to upholding the sanctity of public land and enforcing legal provisions against encroachers without fear or favour.
“This operation sends a clear message that government land is not up for grabs. Encroachers will be identified, evicted, and prosecuted if necessary,” he stated.
The JDA has also issued a public advisory, urging citizens to verify land ownership and obtain proper approvals before undertaking any construction activity. The Authority reaffirmed its mission to protect government assets and ensure that urban development takes place in an organized, legal, and sustainable manner.
This operation marks yet another chapter in the JDA’s intensified drive to reclaim public land, restore law and order in urban planning, and ensure that government property is used only for lawful and community-benefiting purposes.
