Notorious history-sheeter booked under PSA, lodged in District Jail Udhampur

KATHUA, May 19 – In a major development aimed at curbing criminal activities in the region, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kathua, under the overall supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, Shobhit Saksena (IPS), have successfully apprehended a notorious history-sheeter and lodged him under the Public Safety Act (PSA) of 1978.
The accused, identified as Mohd Gulzar, son of Abdullah, resident of Dhanu Parole, Tehsil Billawar, District Kathua, has been involved in a series of criminal activities across the area. His repeated offenses had made him a persistent threat to public peace and safety.
On May 19, 2025, acting on specific inputs and maintaining a firm grip on criminal elements, the police team from Police Station Billawar, under the close supervision of SDPO Billawar Neeraj Padyar and SHO PS Billawar Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq, apprehended the accused. The SHO of Police Station Billawar, Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq, handled the case with utmost responsibility and carefully examined every aspect, demonstrating clear vision and dedication.
Given the gravity and frequency of his offenses, a detailed “Dossier” was prepared outlining his criminal background and the threat he posed to society. This dossier was forwarded to the District Magistrate of Kathua, who after due assessment, issued a detention order under the Public Safety Act (PSA) 1978-a preventive detention law applicable in Jammu and Kashmir, used in cases where the individual poses a serious threat to law and order.
The detention order was executed promptly, and Mohd Gulzar has since been lodged at District Jail Udhampur, effectively neutralizing his ability to continue illegal activities and providing a sense of relief to the local population. Public applauds swift police action: The decisive action by the Kathua Police has received widespread appreciation from the residents of the region. Locals lauded the efforts of law enforcement authorities, stating that such strict measures against habitual offenders restore public confidence and help in maintaining peace and security.
