Jammu, May 6: A 26-year-old Pakistani national was apprehended on Tuesday by Indian security forces after he unlawfully traversed the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials reported.
The arrest transpired against the backdrop of heightened diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan, compounded by recurrent ceasefire breaches along the frontier. These developments follow in the wake of the tragic terrorist assault in Pahalgam, which resulted in the loss of 26 lives primarily comprising tourists.
The individual, identified as Waqas a resident of Tarkhal village situated in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) was intercepted by vigilant army personnel in the strategically sensitive Chakan-Da-Bagh sector shortly after he infiltrated Indian territory.
According to preliminary interrogation, Waqas is believed to have crossed the LoC inadvertently, with no apparent malicious intent. Officials confirmed that no contraband, weapons, or other incriminating materials were recovered upon his apprehension.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the incursion to rule out any potential security threat, even as initial findings suggest the act was unintentional. The matter is likely to be addressed through established military and diplomatic channels in the ensuing days.
