Rajouri, May 5: In a major setback to terrorist efforts to disrupt peace in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, security forces busted an underground hideout in a forested area of Surankote subdivision, Poonch district, and destroyed five ready-to-use Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on the spot.
In addition to the IEDs, the security forces recovered five packets containing black and white urea, a 5-kilogram LPG gas cylinder, a binocular, two black wireless sets, an empty pouch, two woolen caps, three pairs of trousers, and a plate.
Sources said that three of the IEDs, each reportedly weighing about 500 grams, were packed in steel tiffin boxes, while two larger IEDs, each around 5 kilograms, were placed in steel buckets. All the IEDs and the urea packets were wrapped in brown adhesive tape. Acting on an intelligence input, a joint search and destroy operation was launched on Sunday evening by the Army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Poonch police in the Marhot-Rajara area of Surankote tehsil. During the operation in the dense forest, the security forces discovered the terrorist hideout and recovered the explosive devices, urea, wireless sets, and other materials. All five IEDs were destroyed in a controlled explosion on site.
