Poonch, April 27: In a distressing incident that has once again exposed the glaring inefficiency of the Municipal Committee, a pack of feral dogs stormed into the residence of Razia Bi, a widow living in Ward No. 17, Purani Poonch, brutally attacking and injuring several of her goats. The tragic episode unfolded late at night, leaving the woman shattered and her only means of sustenance decimated.
Eyewitnesses recount scenes of utter chaos as the street dogs, emboldened by the lack of effective municipal control, wreaked havoc within the household premises. At least four to five goats were mauled, with some succumbing to their injuries despite desperate attempts to save them.
This latest tragedy is merely the tip of the iceberg. Over the past year, Ward No. 17 and adjoining areas have witnessed a spate of similar attacks. Repeated complaints, petitions, and fervent appeals from residents have fallen on deaf ears, exposing the apathy and incompetence of the Municipal Committee.
“The administration wakes up only after irreparable damage is done,” lamented a local resident. “We are living under constant threat while those in authority offer nothing but empty promises.”
A tearful Razia Bi has earnestly appealed to the district administration for compensation, stating, “These goats were my lifeline. I have no one to turn to. I beseech the authorities to deliver justice.”
Civic negligence has turned the stray dog menace into a full-blown crisis, with no concrete measures such as sterilization drives, rescue operations, or dedicated shelters put in place. Citizens fear that if immediate and decisive action is not taken, the situation could spiral further out of control.
The mounting public anger against the Municipal Committee is palpable. Calls for accountability and swift intervention are growing louder, with many warning of mass protests should the administration continue to shirk its responsibilities.
