Akhnoor, 15th March: Following the recent uproar in the Assembly over the deteriorating condition of Akhnoor’s Palwan Stadium, Sports Minister Satish Sharma, accompanied by MLA Mohan Lal, conducted an inspection of the stadium. Witnessing the stadium’s poor state firsthand, the minister expressed deep dissatisfaction and assured a thorough investigation.
MLA Mohan Lal had raised concerns in the Assembly on Thursday regarding the crores of rupees spent on the stadium’s construction and its inauguration being delayed for years. He also questioned the installation of lights worth 45 lakh, which have never been lit due to the lack of an electricity connection.
Mohan further challenged the Sports Minister’s claims regarding the construction of various sports courts at the Government Degree College. He asserted that many of the courts mentioned in the Assembly exist only on paper, with no trace of them in reality.
Addressing the media, Sports Minister Satish Sharma promised a detailed inquiry into the irregularities surrounding the stadium’s construction. He made it clear that if the investigation reveals negligence or corruption by any agency, contractor, or employee, strict action will be taken. The minister emphasized that the current government has only been in power for four months and should not be blamed for the mismanagement and corruption that occurred over the past 10-15 years. He assured that the guilty would be held accountable.
After inspecting Palawan Sports Stadium, the minister also visited the Indoor Stadium, where he expressed similar concerns about construction lapses and assured corrective measures.
Prominent figures present at the inspection included former Sarpanches Pal Sharma, Jagdish Bhagat, Ashwin Sharma, Dev Raj Bhagat, along with Pawan Sharma, Chetan Sharma, Uttam Singh, Bharat Bhushan Puchu, Shamsher Das, and others.
