Rajouri, Feb 14: Despite the Indian Army’s claim that the ceasefire is intact on the Line of Control (LoC), Pakistani troops of 10 POK carried out a sniper attack on the Indian post in the Battal area of Akhnoor sector resulting in injury to a soldier.
It was the sixth incident on LoC since February 8. Sources said that at about 6.30 pm on Friday an Indian army soldier was injured in a sniper shot from across the Line of Control in the Keri-Battal area of Akhnoor sector.
Immediately after the incident, the injured soldier was shifted to army health facility at Akhnoor.
Pertinently, on February 11 a Captain and a Naik had attained martyrdom in this area when the Pakistan sponsored terrorists triggered an IED on India patrolling track along the fence. On February 10 Havildar Pooran Singh was injured in sniper attack from PoJK side in
Kalal area of Nowshera sector.
Several Pakistani soldiers were either killed or injured when Indian army retaliated effectively to firing by Pakistani soldiers on Indian patrol party to felicitate infiltration bid in Tarkundi sector in Poonch district on February 12.
Next day, the Indian army recovered a huge quantity of different types of mines, cordex wire etc from the area.
“Tension due to some stray incidents of cross LoC firing and a suspected IED blast on the LoC is being dealt with through the established mechanism. No exchange of fire of heavy-calibre weapons has taken place. Minor incidents are not unprecedented along the LoC,” Army said on Thursday.
The ceasefire agreement, renewed on February 25, 2021, has largely held, with rare violations.
Army added concerns have been with the Pakistan Army at the appropriate level, and the situation remains stable and closely monitored.
