Notorious criminal involved in bovine & drug smuggling booked under Public Safety Act

Kathua, Jan 11: In a significant move to combat crime and ensure public safety, the Jammu & Kashmir Police in Kathua, under the able leadership of SSP Sh. Shobhit Saksena IPS, successfully apprehended a notorious habitual criminal involved in multiple criminal activities. The accused, identified as Maskeen Ali alias Bantu, a resident of Ward No. 13, Rakh Sarkar Plahai, Tehsil Hiranagar, District Kathua, has been booked under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) of 1978.

The operation, which was carried out, saw a dedicated team from Police Station (PS) Hira Nagar, led by SHO PS Hira Nagar under the supervision of SDPO Border, apprehending the notorious criminal. Maskeen Ali, a well-known figure in the region for his involvement in bovine smuggling, drug peddling, and other heinous crimes, had been on the radar of law enforcement for quite some time.

Maskeen Ali has a long criminal record, with involvement in several cases across multiple police stations in the Kathua region. His criminal activities include bovine smuggling, drug trafficking, and assault. Notable cases against him include- 1) FIR No. 34/2019 under Sections 8/21/22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at PS Hira Nagar; 2) FIR No. 188/2022 under Sections 188 IPC and 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act at PS Hira Nagar; 3) FIR No. 158/2019 under Sections 323/341/382 IPC at PS Rajbagh; 4) FIR No. 23/2021 under Sections 188 IPC and 11 PCA Act at PS Ghagwal; and 5) FIR No. 398/2021 under Sections 188 IPC and 11 PCA Act at PS Nagrota.

In an effort to curb his illegal activities and ensure the safety of the community, a detailed dossier was prepared against Maskeen Ali. The dossier was submitted to the District Magistrate Kathua, who, after reviewing the evidence, issued a detention order against him under the Public Safety Act (PSA). This law allows for the detention of individuals who pose a serious threat to public peace and safety.

Following the issuance of the detention warrant, Maskeen Ali was promptly arrested and taken into custody. He has been lodged in the Central Kot-Bhalwal Jail in Jammu, where he will remain incarcerated to prevent him from further engaging in illegal activities.

The swift action taken by the Kathua Police has been widely appreciated by the local residents, who have lauded the efforts of law enforcement in maintaining peace and order in the district.
