Darhal police took suo moto into alleged suspicious death of pregnant woman

Rajouri, January 11: Darhal police in Rajouri district have taken suo moto cognizance and registered a case (FIR No.3/2025) over an alleged death of a pregnant woman in suspicious circumstances at her in-law’s house in village Ujjan. The deceased has been identified as Najma Kousar wife of Mumtaz Ahmed and after her family’s allegations of alleged domestic harassment at the hands of in-laws, police took possession of the body for medico-legal formalities. Sources said Nazma was found dead at her in-law’s house in suspicious circumstances on Saturday. On getting information about the death of Nazma, her family members rushed to her in-law’s house. They claimed foul play behind her untimely death alleging the deceased had been subjected to continuous domestic harassment by her in-laws before her demise. The matter was brought to the notice of police at Darhal police station and a party rushed to the village. Police took possession of the body after legal formalities and brought it to sub district hospital at Darhal for postmortem examination. After medico-legal formalities and postmortem, police handed over the body to her family for last rites. “Police have taken suo motu cognizance of the incident. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered. The exact cause of death for further action/investigation would be clear after the postmortem report” said a senior police officer.
People of the area have demanded an impartial investigation for justice to Nazma and her unborn child.
