BJP Leader’s Son Shot at in Jammu; PDD Employee Arrested

In a shocking incident, Ravinder Singh, an employee of the Power Development Department (PDD), shot and injured Advocate Kanav Sharma, the son of veteran BJP leader Chander Mohan Sharma, in the New Plots area of Jammu city. The attack took place near the PDD office, sparking widespread concern in the region.

According to reports, the incident occurred after a verbal altercation between Kanav Sharma and PDD officials regarding an unspecified issue. The situation escalated when Singh, allegedly armed with a personal firearm, opened fire, injuring Sharma. The accused fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Kanav Sharma, who also serves as the District President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Jammu, was rushed to the Government Medical College (GMC) and Hospital Jammu, where the doctors have reported that his condition is stable.

Speaking to the media outside the hospital, Chander Mohan Sharma, the BJP leader and father of the injured, expressed his distress over the incident. He confirmed that the assailant was a PDD employee and that his son was shot with a personal pistol. “He [Kanav Sharma] was stable, but we are deeply concerned about the circumstances surrounding this attack,” said Sharma.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over parking when Kanav Sharma parked his car near the PDD office. “The individuals inside the PDD office seemed to think that my son was there to inspect them, which led to a heated argument. One of them then opened fire,” Chander Mohan Sharma explained.

Following the attack, the Bakshi Nagar Police acted swiftly, arresting the accused within six hours of the incident. Ravinder Singh was apprehended from a hideout, and the weapon used in the crime was recovered. Police have registered FIR No. 01/2025, and investigations are ongoing.

A police official confirmed that preliminary investigations have revealed Singh’s affiliation with the PDD, and efforts are being made to gather more details about the altercation and its causes. “We have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident and are working to determine the motive behind this act,” the official said.

While the investigation continues, the BJP has expressed deep concern over the growing safety issues in the area. Chander Mohan Sharma also highlighted an alarming issue regarding the PDD office, stating that unauthorized persons have often been seen inside the premises, raising questions about the security and operations within the office. “It is concerning that such individuals have been frequenting the office. The concerned authorities must take action to address this matter,” he stressed.

The incident has left the community on edge, with calls for increased vigilance and immediate measures to ensure the safety of public figures and citizens alike. As the investigation unfolds, there is growing pressure for transparency and accountability in the handling of this case.
