Two Arrested with 5.3 Kgs of heroin-like substances near LoC in Rajouri district

Rajouri, December 16: In a concerted effort to eradicate drug menace and take effective action against drug smugglers, the District Rajouri Police in a joint operation with Army apprehended two persons from a village Makri, situated along Line of Control in Nowshera subdivision, along with 5.3 kilograms of heroin-like narcotics substance worth crores.
Continuing its efforts against drug menace under J&K Police’s ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ , District Rajouri Police under the overall supervision of SSP, Gaurav Sikarwar during last few days have arrested many drug peddlers along with consignments of heroin like substances and large number of banned tablets like Tapentadol, Pregabalin , and Tramadol.
SSP while briefing the reporters said on intelligence inputs a joint operation was conducted against narcotics trafficking in Makri-Bhawani area on Saturday night. and police apprehended two individuals.
“During the operation, 5.3 kilograms of Heroin-like Narcotics substance was recovered from their possession,” said SSP.
The arrested accused persons have been identified as Sajan Kumar @ Vicky son of Om Parkash, and Subhash Chander son of Pishori Lal, both residents of Nowshera.
Police have seized the contraband substance in the presence of 1st Class Magistrate and booked the accused under sections 8,21,& 22 of NDPS ACT (FIR NO. 178/2024) at Nowshera police station.
Police have started further investigation for the backward and forward links of the accused persons and to know whether the accused are a part of a cross-border drug smuggling network or not.
“The police remain committed to combating the menace of drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and security of the public. Further investigations are underway to ascertain the source and distribution network of the seized narcotics,” said SSP.
It is pertinent to mention here that in the month of April this year Nowshera police busted the cross LoC smuggling network and had arrested three narcotics smugglers from Badi Makri village along with 9.98 kgs of Heroin like narcotic substance.
Three smugglers were identified as Sukhvinder Singh, Naveen Kumar son of Moti Ram, and Davinder @Munna son of Rajesh Kumar.
SSP further said that in the second action Rajouri police have arrested two persons along with 18 grams of heroin during routine checking and frisking at a police “naka point’ near Sailani Bridge.
Both individuals were detained by the Naka party and upon conducting their personal search 18 grams of Heroine like Substance was recovered from their possession.
Accused have been identified as Vaneet Sayal s/o Om Parkash resident of Androla (at present near Salani) and Sourav Kumar s/o Rajinder Kumar of village Muradpur.
Both the accused have been arrested and booked under sections 8, 21, 22, and 29 of the NDPS Act (FIR No. 544/2024) at Rajouri police station and their further investigation is underway.
In the third action on Monday (December 16), Rajouri police team during r=otine checking near Children Park in PWD Dak Bungalow noticed suspicious movement of two persons after spotting police presence.
Acted swiftly, cops apprehended one individual carrying a luggage bag identified as Mohd Sadiq, resident of Ward No. 04, near Children’s Park.
During the search of the bag, police recovered a large quantity of banned tablets, including 689 strips of Tapentadol (6890 tablets), 36 strips of Pregabalin (540 tablets), and 6 strips of Tramadol (60 tablets).
Mohd Sadiq was arrested and the police seized the consignment of banned drugs (tablets). The police have also identified another individual, who managed to escape, and soon will be arrested.
The other individual, who managed to escape, was later identified.
In this connection a case under sections 8, 21, and 22 of the NDPS Act (FIR No. 543/2024) has been registered at Rajouri police station and investigation of the case is underway, police said.
