Doda, Nov 29: In a significant move demonstrating commitment to reclaiming public property, the Doda district administration, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Harvinder Singh, successfully removed a 40-year-old encroachment on land belonging to the District Information Centre (DIC).
The encroachment, reportedly by a government employee, had persisted for decades due to the negligence of previous administrations. The issue was brought to light by newly appointed District Information Officer (DIO) Nasir Ahmed Khan, who promptly alerted the DC during a routine inspection of the DIO. DC Harvinder Singh, known for his strong stance against encroachments, having facilitated large-scale encroachment removals during his tenure as Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) in Jammu, immediately ordered action. He directed Tehsildar Doda to investigate and swiftly restore the encroached land.
Through a coordinated effort involving the DIC, Revenue Department, and Municipal Council, the land was successfully retrieved. This decisive action underscores the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.
Sources within the administration revealed that this is part of a larger effort by DC Singh to address the issue of land encroachment in Doda district. They estimate that between 500 to 600 Kanals of land have already been retrieved from encroachers under his leadership.
The removal of this long-standing encroachment not only restores the DIC land to its rightful use but also sets a precedent for future action against illegal land occupation.
The district administration has pledged to continue addressing similar issues and ensuring responsible management of public properties.
The citizens of Doda have lauded the DC’s decisive action and expressed their appreciation for his honest and dedicated efforts to address their concerns.
This incident has restored their faith in the administration’s ability to protect public assets and enforce the rule of law. The DIC land can now be fully utilized for its intended purpose, enhancing communication and outreach activities in the district.
