Major drug bust in Jammu, son of BJP DDC member Rajinder Sharma among three arrested

Jammu, Nov 21: It is both shocking and disheartening to learn that the son of a DDC member Sunderbani Rajinder Sharma has been involved in drug peddling. This raises serious questions about the moral and ethical standing of such political leaders. How can we expect meaningful reform from someone who has failed to guide and discipline their own family? It is difficult to believe that the DDC member was unaware of his son’s illegal activities. Alternatively, it could be presumed that he may have been offering political protection to shield his son’s drug-peddling operations or he is hand-in-glove with his son illegal business. Such allegations demand thorough investigation and accountability.
In a significant operation against drug trafficking, Jammu Police made a breakthrough by seizing approximately 192 grams of heroin (commonly referred to as “chitta”) and arresting three individuals, including the son of a prominent political figure DDC Sunderbani Rajinder Sharma of BJP. The operation was carried out by a team from Police Station Domana under the leadership of SHO Domana, supervised by SDPO Domana and SP Rural Jammu.
The arrest occurred during a routine vehicle checking at the Domana naka. A suspicious Scorpio bearing registration number JK11H-1122, traveling from Akhnoor towards Jammu, was stopped for inspection. Upon frisking the vehicle, police recovered the heroin-like substance.
The three arrested individuals are: 1) Sahil Sharma, son of District Development Council (DDC) member from Sunderbani, Rajinder Sharma, and a resident of Talla Tanda, Sunderbani; 2) Sumit Raina, son of Gani Sham, resident of Channi Prat, Sunderbani; and 3) Mohd Rozwan, son of Mohd Ishar, resident of Dodasan Balla, Rajouri.
The narcotics, the vehicle, and other related evidence have been seized, and a case has been registered under FIR No. 269/2024 at Police Station Domana under sections 8/21/22/25/29 of the NDPS Act.
The involvement of Sahil Sharma, son of a sitting DDC member, has raised concerns over the influence of drug networks infiltrating even the most reputed circles. Police authorities have assured that the investigation will be impartial and thorough, aiming to dismantle any larger network tied to this bust.
Jammu Police has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards drug-related offenses. They have urged citizens to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities that could indicate drug trafficking or abuse. “The war against drugs is not just the responsibility of law enforcement but a collective fight involving every member of society,” said an official.
The news has sparked widespread discussion in the region. Citizens have expressed both shock and appreciation for the police’s swift action, emphasizing the importance of addressing the drug menace to protect the youth.
