BJP MLA Kuldeep Raj Dubey slams NC government for misleading public, accuses for playing political tricks

Reasi, Nov 13: In a strongly worded statement, Kuldeep Raj Dubey, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Reasi, launched a scathing attack on the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (NC) government led by Omar Abdullah, accusing them of trying to mislead the people of Jammu & Kashmir by raising a controversial issue that has already been resolved at the national level. Speaking to media persons in Reasi, Dubey condemned the NC’s attempt to pass a resolution seeking special status for the region during the first session of the newly elected assembly.
NC government playing politics, ignoring people’s real issues: Dubey expressed his dismay over the NC government’s focus on irrelevant matters, rather than addressing the pressing concerns of the people. He emphasized that, instead of engaging in discussions on crucial issues such as employment, development, and the welfare of the common people, the NC government chose to create unnecessary political drama. “Instead of addressing the core issues affecting the people, the NC government decided to pass a resolution over seeking special status for Jammu & Kashmir-a matter that has already been settled by the Indian Parliament and upheld by the Supreme Court,” Dubey said.
He reminded the assembly that Article 370 and Article 35A-which provided Jammu & Kashmir with special status-were abrogated by the Indian Parliament in August 2019, a move that was subsequently validated by the Supreme Court of India. “There is no legal or constitutional basis for further discussion on this issue. It is an attempt to mislead the people and divert attention from real issues,” he added.
Surprise and disappointment in the assembly: Dubey further clarified that there was no proposal on the table during the ongoing assembly session to discuss the special status issue, making the NC’s action all the more baffling. “Every member in the assembly was surprised when this resolution was tabled. It was a waste of time and a diversion from the important matters that we should have been discussing,” he said. Dubey pointed out that the NC government had used the session to focus on symbolic gestures rather than substantive discussions that could bring tangible relief to the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
BJP’s commitment to development and people’s issues: Turning his attention to his own party’s approach, Dubey underscored that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was ready to cooperate with the government on matters that directly impacted the common people. He mentioned that the BJP MLAs were prepared to discuss critical issues such as creating job opportunities, addressing land disputes, and improving infrastructure. However, he claimed that the NC government showed little interest in discussing such developmental issues, preferring instead to play political games.
Highlighting the promises made by the NC and Congress during the election campaign, Dubey pointed out that the people of Jammu & Kashmir were led to believe that they would receive benefits such as 200 units of free electricity, hiked rations, 12 subsidized gas cylinders, and an increase in old-age pensions to Rs 5000. “These were promises made by the NC and Congress during the elections. Now, it is time for them to deliver. However, rather than addressing these critical issues, the NC government has chosen to sidestep them,” he said.
BJP MLAs demand accountability: Dubey stressed that the BJP would continue to press the government on its electoral promises and would hold them accountable for their actions. “We are committed to fighting for the rights of the people. We will continue to demand transparency and accountability, especially regarding the promises made during the election campaign. The people of Jammu & Kashmir deserve better than political gimmicks,” he stated.
Unprecedented use of force in assembly: The BJP MLA also expressed his outrage over an incident that occurred within the assembly, where members of the ruling party allegedly used force to eject nationalist MLAs. “What happened in the assembly was deeply disturbing. It is a sad day for democracy when a government resorts to using muscle power to throw out elected representatives who stand for the people. This has never been witnessed before in Jammu & Kashmir,” Dubey said, condemning the use of marshals to forcibly remove MLAs.
He described the incident as a flawed and authoritarian action that set a dangerous precedent for the functioning of the legislature. “Such undemocratic actions have no place in a democratic setup, and they only undermine the trust of the people in the institution of the legislature,” he added.
Calls for a focus on governance and development: Concluding his remarks, Kuldeep Raj Dubey called on the NC government to focus on governance and addressing the real issues that the people of Jammu & Kashmir face. “It’s high time that the government stops playing politics and focuses on the development of the region. People are suffering from unemployment, inflation, and a lack of basic amenities. They need solutions, not political drama,” he said.
Dubey reaffirmed that the BJP would continue to work for the welfare of the people and would demand that the NC government live up to its promises, with an emphasis on job creation, economic growth, and social welfare.
