JKSSB Recruitment Scams: Years of Allegations, Broken Trust, and a Demand for Accountability

Jammu, November 12: As allegations of widespread corruption and irregularities in JKSSB recruitment examinations resurface, the newly elected government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah faces a critical test: will it prioritize transparency and accountability, or will it follow the previous administration’s alleged pattern of inaction?
Former MLC Yasir Reshi has accused individuals involved in a past paper leak scandal of continuing their illicit activities. In a recent post on X, Reshi alleged that Shahnawaz Khan and Mubashir Rather, previously implicated in the Fire & Emergency and Nursing exam paper leak and named in FIR No. 53 of 2023 registered at PS Tral under sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC, are now out on bail and “selling papers for money.” He has urged the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Lieutenant Governor’s office to take swift action against the accused.
The FIR, filed last year, named seven individuals, including Khan and Rather, for allegedly selling JKBOPEE exam papers. Despite being granted bail by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) Tral on June 16, 2023, Reshi’s allegations suggest that their illicit activities continue unabated.
Apni Party Demands Probe into JKSSRB Recruitment Scams, Blocking of Non-Local Candidates
Adding to the growing chorus of concern, Apni Party Provincial President and former Minister Manjit Singh has demanded a government probe into various JKSSRB recruitment scams, alleging that irregularities have jeopardized the future of aspiring candidates. He criticized the alleged unfair selection processes and questioned the employment of candidates from outside Jammu and Kashmir, ignoring local youth and exacerbating the already high unemployment rate in the region.
“The large number of vacant posts in various departments requires a fair and transparent recruitment process,” stated Singh, adding that the past scams have eroded public trust in the system. He demanded accountability for the officials responsible for these irregularities and urged the government to address the growing concerns of unemployed youth.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary has also criticized the previous BJP administration for its inaction on these scams. He highlighted the BJP’s silence during their tenure, accusing them of turning a blind eye to the rampant corruption within the JKSSB while unemployment skyrocketed under the LG’s rule.
The JKSSB has been plagued by allegations of corruption and irregularities for years. Numerous media reports and complaints from citizens, dating back to at least 2020, have detailed suspicious activities and illegal land dealings. Despite these repeated complaints, the previous administration took no concrete action to address the issue.
With a new political government in place, the public is looking to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to fulfil his promise of transparency and accountability. Will his administration take decisive action against those involved in the JKSSB scams, or will it follow the BJP’s pattern of sweeping these issues under the carpet? The people of Jammu and Kashmir demand answers and a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to fighting corruption and ensuring a fair and transparent recruitment process.
