Jammu, Nov 03: Fayaz Ahmad Wani, a dynamic and influential leader of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) from Kashmir, is reportedly feeling discontent within the party due to a lack of recognition for his contributions. Despite his concerns, Wani remains committed to the PDP and has no plans to join another political faction.
Sources indicate that Mr. Wani joined the PDP in 2014 after extensive discussions with the party’s founder, the late Mufti Mohammed Sayeed. Both leaders shared a vision that aligned closely, leading to Wani’s pivotal role in the party’s efforts to govern Jammu & Kashmir in coalition with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which culminated in Sayeed becoming Chief Minister.
Wani’s political journey began with his candidacy in the 2008 assembly elections from Pahalgam, where he forged strong connections with the electorate, particularly among the youth. His approachable demeanor and people-first policies have earned him deep respect and affection from the residents of Kashmir.
However, following the passing of Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, many dedicated party leaders, including Wani, have felt increasingly marginalized. As a result, several members have defected to other political parties, leading to a significant decline in the PDP’s grassroots support.
