Genuine versus VIP POJK DPs!

Jammu, Oct 15: In a significant step towards empowering the Pak Occupied Jammu & Kashmir Displaced Persons (POJK DPs) community, the Government of India has announced its intention to nominate a representative to voice their concerns in the assembly. However, this initiative comes with a vital stipulation: the nominee must be a genuine member of the community, not a VIP or a defeated candidate, to ensure that the representation is meaningful and authentic.
The underlying purpose of this nomination is noble and far-reaching. It aims to alleviate the long-standing pains and issues faced by the POJK DPs of 1947. If the government selects a representative who is disconnected from the community, it risks turning this initiative into a mere rehabilitation process, leaving the most persecuted group feeling cheated once again.
To achieve genuine representation, the government must choose someone who still resides in one of the 36 camps established for displaced persons. A representative living in luxury, with security personnel and a lavish lifestyle, would not reflect the true experiences of the displaced persons.

Drawing inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s precedent of appointing a humble individual, Bhajan Lal, as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh to demonstrate solidarity with the underprivileged, community leaders argue for a similar approach in this nomination process.
It is imperative that the selected nominee be non-political, free from the tendency to switch parties for personal gain. Political ambition can hinder the ability to advocate for the community effectively and could lead to further division within the POJK DPs. A representative who prioritizes their political career over genuine advocacy will not bring justice to the community, but instead may create factions that undermine progress.
Those responsible for executing the nomination must fully grasp the intention behind this initiative, which aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Failure to do so would result in a missed opportunity to genuinely represent the voices of a marginalized community.
