Ramban district achieves satisfactory 70.53% voter turnout in assembly elections

Jammu, Oct 11: In a remarkable display of civic engagement, Ramban district in Jammu & Kashmir recorded an impressive voter turnout of 70.53% during the recently held assembly elections. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as it surpasses the overall polling percentage of 63.45% for the region and marks a significant increase from the Lok Sabha elections, which saw a turnout of 61.25%.
The success of this electoral process is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the District Election Officer, Baseer-Ul-Haq Choudhary, IAS, who also serves as the District Commissioner, and his exceptional team. Their relentless efforts in mobilizing voters in a district characterized by challenging hilly terrain and limited connectivity have truly made a difference.
Ramban district is composed of two assembly constituencies, with Ramban achieving a turnout of 69.67% and Banihal leading with 71.28%. These figures reflect not only the effectiveness of the district’s electoral management but also the community’s commitment to democracy.
The dedicated district election team, including Assistant District Commissioner Varunjeet Singh Charak, Deputy District Election Officer Abdul Jabbar, and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban, has worked tirelessly under the guidance of DEO Choudhary. Their collaborative efforts have been instrumental in ensuring a smooth and peaceful electoral process.
Ramban district is divided into three sub-divisions: Banihal, Ramsoo, and Gool, encompassing eight tehsils-Ramban, Batote, Rajgarh, Gool, Ramsoo, Ukhral, Khari, and Banihal. The district spans eleven blocks and includes 129 Panchayats and 132 villages, each facing its own unique challenges. Despite the difficult terrain and road connectivity issues, the election team successfully encouraged residents to participate in the democratic process.
Nestled at the foothills of the Siwaliks and along the banks of the Chenab River, Ramban is known for its stunning landscapes and significant economic resources. The river, flowing through steep mountain ranges, plays a crucial role in the local economy, while the district is also famous for its sulphur spring, believed to possess miraculous healing properties.
