Jammu, October 11, 2024: After a seven-year wait, the Jammu and Kashmir Police Service (JKPS) has finally undergone a significant restructuring, a move welcomed with profound gratitude by the officers who have served on the frontlines of maintaining peace and security in the turbulent region.

The new rules, formalized through a recent notification, not only acknowledge the officers’ contributions but also aim to boost morale and address concerns of stagnation within the force.

The restructuring was spearheaded by Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, along with the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary of the Home Department, and the Director General of Police. It is being hailed as a long-overdue recognition of the JKPS’s tireless efforts in combating Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and maintaining order amidst periods of intense unrest.

“This progressive step serves as a powerful reminder of the trust placed in us,” said a senior JKPS officer. “It motivates us to continue our service with greater dedication and commitment.”

JKPS officers have consistently stood at the forefront, facing immense challenges and making significant sacrifices to ensure the safety and welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Despite the positive impact of the restructuring, concerns remain within the JKPS regarding stagnation and limited opportunities for promotion. The quota for promotion from JKPS to IPS was previously set at 67, but it has been reduced to 38, leading to frustration and limited career advancement prospects for many dedicated officers.

The JKPS officers remain hopeful that this restructuring marks a turning point and those further steps will be taken to address the issue of stagnation and ensure a more dynamic and rewarding career path for its officers.
