Jammu, Oct 09: In a commendable display of electoral engagement, the recently concluded assembly elections have highlighted the exemplary performance of District Election Officers (DEOs) across the region. Notably, the District Election Officer for Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishy, IAS, who also serves as the Deputy Commissioner, has been instrumental in achieving an impressive voter turnout of 70.25% across 11 assembly constituencies.
Despite the challenges posed by a significant portion of the urban population being engaged in professional commitments or residing outside Jammu and Kashmir, the district’s turnout surpasses the overall state average of 63.45%. This achievement reflects the dedication and tireless efforts of the election team, which worked diligently to encourage voter participation in a region characterized by its unique demographic challenges.
Under the leadership of DEO Sachin Kumar Vaishy, the team launched extensive awareness campaigns, emphasizing the importance of exercising one’s democratic right to vote. Their relentless efforts paid off, as evidenced by the turnout percentages in various constituencies: Bishnah (74%), Suchetgarh (71%), RS Pura-Jammu South (65%), Bahu (60.51%), Jammu East (62%), Nagrota (77.60%), Jammu West (57.65%), Jammu North (72%), Marh (79%), Akhnoor (79.70%), and Chhamb (63.45%).
The Jammu district, with its diverse population spread across 21 tehsils-including Akhnoor, Arnia, Bahu, Bhalwal, Bishnah, Chowki Choura, Dansal, Jammu, Jammu North, Jammu South, Jammu West, Jourian, Kharah Balli, Khour, Maira Mandrian, Mandal, Marh, Nagrota, Pargwal, Ranbir Singh Pura, and Suchetgarh-faces logistical challenges in voter mobilization due to its expansive area and hilly terrain. Nevertheless, the dedicated team under Vaishy’s guidance managed to reach out to voters effectively, ensuring that the voice of the electorate was heard loud and clear.
Jammu, often referred to as the “City of Temples,” is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, with historical landmarks such as the Maha Kali Temple in Bahu Fort, revered for its mystical significance. This vibrant backdrop adds a unique dimension to the democratic process, enriching the experience of those participating in elections.
The Jammu district encompasses seven subdivisions, 305 gram panchayats, and approximately 890 villages, making it one of the largest districts in Jammu and Kashmir. Its geographical diversity-from the Shivalik hills to the plains-presents both opportunities and challenges for effective governance and civic engagement.
As the dust settles on the recent elections, the remarkable turnout stands as a testament to the leadership of DC Sachin Kumar Vaishy and his team’s dedication to fostering a robust democratic process in Jammu.
