Jammu, Aug 9: In a resounding victory against drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police have confiscated a staggering 33 kilograms of a heroin-like substance, estimated to be worth over 33 crores, in a meticulously planned operation near the Jammu Bus Stand. This operation, one of the largest drug seizures in the region’s recent history, highlights the effectiveness of the police force under the leadership of ADGP Anand Jain and SSP Jammu Dr. Vinod Kumar IPS.
Acting on credible intelligence, a team from Police Station Bus Stand, led by SHO Vikas Dogra, laid a strategic checkpoint (naka) near the Bus Stand area, targeting Harmeet Singh (name changed), a resident of Punjab suspected of transporting illegal drugs.
As Singh, traveling from Akhnoor towards the Bus Stand, approached the checkpoint, the police team, under the guidance of SP City North Jammu Shivam Siddharth IPS, swiftly apprehended him, executing a well-coordinated operation to ensure the suspect’s capture and prevent any untoward incident.
Upon searching Singh’s belongings, the police discovered 26 packets of a substance concealed in a large bag. Preliminary tests confirmed the substance to be a high-potency heroin-like substance, with an estimated total weight of 33 kilograms and a street value exceeding 33 crores.
An FIR (No. 41/2024) has been registered against Singh at Police Station Bus Stand, Jammu, under Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, pertaining to the possession, trafficking, and distribution of illegal narcotics.
Initial investigations suggest that the seized heroin originated from areas along the India-Pakistan border and was destined for Punjab, where it would likely be distributed further. The police are actively pursuing both forward and backward linkages to uncover the full extent of the drug trafficking network. This includes tracing the source of the drugs, identifying other potential operatives, and dismantling the syndicate’s distribution channels.
